USA. Series of natural disasters
OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from USA Olga
Independent scientists and officials from 13 federal agencies published a report “Worsening of Extreme weather disasters”
Long before the deadly fires in California this month and Hurricanes Florence and Michael that wrecked the East Coast and Florida, the National Climate Assessment announced that extreme weather conditions related to global warming "have already become more frequent, intense, widespread and longer in duration".
The federal report informs that the last few years have beat all records for damaging weather conditions in the U.S., costing nearly $400 billion since 2015. “Warmer and drier conditions have contributed to an increase in large forest fires in the western United States and central Alaska,” according to the report.
“We are seeing the things we said would be happening, happen now in real life,” said report co-author Katharine Hayhoe of Texas Tech University. “As a climate scientist, it is almost surreal.”
The report co-author Donald Wuebbles, a University of Illinois climate scientist, said, “We’re going to continue to see severe weather events get stronger and more intense.”
The air pollution from wildfires combined with heat waves is a major future health risk for the West, the report says. During the fires in northern California, air quality hit “hazardous” levels, according to government air monitoring agencies.
“There’s real concern about how the West will be able to manage this increasing occurrence,” said co-author of the report Kristie Ebi, a University of Washington public health professor. She said global warming is already harming people’s health, but it will only get worse.
“Climate change is transforming where and how we live and presents growing challenges to human health and quality of life, the economy, and the natural systems that support us,” the report says.
That includes worsening of air pollution which causes heart and lung problems, an increase in number of diseases caused by insects, the rise in mortality during heat waves, and bad allergies.
This report differs from others in that it focuses on the United States as a whole, and then more locally and in more detail.

QUOTE FROM THE REPORT BY "ALLATRA SCIENCE" GROUP
"On the Problems and Consequences of Global Climate Change on Earth. Effective Ways to Solve These Problems"
“Today, there is a big risk of misunderstanding and underestimation of all factors and the scale of the influence of various space and geological processes on global climate change on Earth. More recently, at the end of the 20th century, some scientists put forward various hypotheses and theories about gradual climate change. But in practice, everything turned out to be somewhat different. A thorough analysis of the growth in the number of natural disasters, extreme weather disasters around the world, as well as statistical indicators of space and geophysical parameters in recent years has shown an alarming trend towards their significant increase in a short period of time.”

Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from Los Angeles!
In California (USA) cataclysms continue.
JOHN, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
In previous episodes of the Breaking News, we reported on catastrophic forest fires in California, which have become the most devastating in the history of the state.
The situation has changed, the long-awaited rains not only eliminated the last fire areas, but also provoked a new local disaster. The large amount of precipitation led to large-scale floods and mudflows. Heavy rains flooded the affected areas and provoked mudflows.
The occurrence of mudflows has been linked to the fires that destroyed vegetation and bared the soil, the heavy rains that followed are washing away the land and ruins of the burned areas. After such destruction of the upper part of the soil, debris is easily picked up by water and spread over a greater distance.
The locals tried to save their homes from the strong flow of water and mud, laying sandbags along the highway, but they still got flooded. Some victims were stranded in their homes. People waited out the bad weather on the roofs of houses, on treetops and natural hills.
Traffic on the highways was problematic, drivers were temporarily trapped by mudslides, a number of roads were closed.
At such moments, we realize how important it is to help those around us. And it doesn't have to be a friend, relative or someone you know. This may be a complete stranger, but if you help him and provide exactly the help he needs at the moment, it can... greatly help.

In Indonesia, the number of devastating natural disasters continues to grow. An eyewitness from Indonesia will tell us about what is happening in the country and how the local population is coping with it.
MAURICE, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, INDONESIA:
Over the past month, Indonesia has once again experienced a series of natural disasters
Hello! This is AllatRa TV reporter from Indonesia!
Over the past month, Indonesia has once again experienced a series of natural disasters.
At the end of November, the country was hit by heavy rains, which led to flooding.
As a result, in Badar district (Southeast Aceh Regency) the water level in two rivers rose sharply. In the village of Natam Baru, due to bad weather, 23 houses were destroyed, nearly a hundred houses were damaged.
The disaster affected East, West and Central Java Regencies. Many streets have gone under water. More than one thousand people were injured. There were casualties.
On November 27th, as a result of a landslide in the vicinity of Purwakarta of West Java regency 4 people were killed. Homes were destroyed.
On November 29th, a flash flood occurred in South Tapanuli Regency. The buildings were damaged and unfortunately, there were casualties. On the same day, residents of East Java were witnessed a tornado.
On December 2nd, a landslide occurred in the district of Karo Regency of North Sumatra, which killed 7 people.
On December 6th, a powerful tornado hit the city of Bogor located in West Java province. The whirlwind caused significant damage; about 50 houses were damaged, trees and power lines were down.
On December 16th, in the Northern part of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the Soputan volcano erupted. The volcano spew a column of ashes up to 7.5 kilometers high. In order to avoid injuries, the authorities of Sulawesi island prohibited local residents from approaching the volcano within a radius of 4 km from the dangerous area. There is a threat of hot ash sliding into the flank of the volcano. Over 16 million people live in the vicinity of the volcano.
On the same day, there was a powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Papua, the easternmost province of Indonesia, located 144 km North-West of the capital of Jayapura province. The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management announced that residents of nearby areas ran out of their homes in a panic because of the earthquake here M7.8.
We talk about tragedy in the world and I hope this can help people come together and change the way they think about the world. Thank you very much.

In mid-December, over a period one week, volcanoes in Indonesia, Guatemala, Chile, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Japan activated one after another. And this level of activity continues to grow. ALLATRA TV reporter will give a detailed report.
_____________
OLEG, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, MOLDOVA
Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from Moldova
Volcanic activity has intensified in various parts of the planet since mid-December.
A couple of days before the eruption of the volcano Soputan in Indonesia, volcano Fuego in Guatemala showed its activity.
On December 14th, a group of tourists, caught by surprise, watched the volcano Fuego suddenly “ignite”.
Let us recall that this is the sixth eruption of the volcano Fuego in 2018. Regarding the fifth eruption of the volcano, watch the 20th episode of Breaking News.
Also, on December 14th, the Planchón-Peteroa volcanic complex threw up ash to a height of 800 m. It is a complex volcano extending in a north-south direction along the border between Argentina and Chile.
The volcanic complex consists of volcanoes of different ages and several overlapping calderas.
It includes Volcan Planchon, Vulcan-Peteróa and Volcan-Azufre. The eruption was accompanied by prolonged seismic activity and tremors, which remained even after the eruption of the volcano. Yellow danger level has been assigned to this volcano.
On December 15th, an eruption of the Ambrym volcano began in the Republic of Vanuatu. Initially, ash fallout was recorded in the Marum crater in the eastern part of the caldera, and already on December 16th, gas-vapor emission with ash additives began in the western part of the caldera - in Benbow crater. Ash fallouts were noted in a number of settlements in the northern part of the island.
The Department of Meteorology and Geological Threats of Vanuatu raised the level of danger of the volcano to three out of five. Observation of the volcano continues because of the possibility of raising the level of danger to four.
The eruption of the volcano was accompanied by a series of earthquakes. Dozens of earthquakes were recorded in the area of Ambrym Island.
On December 15th, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake occurred 15 km from Ambrym volcano at a depth of 35 km.
And on December 12th, a couple of days before the eruption of the volcano, 8 kilometers from Ambrym volcano at a depth of 10 km, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake occurred. Earthquakes caused minor damage to homes in several locations. Locals report that in the southern part of the island the ground was covered with cracks.
On December 15th, an eruption of the volcano Popocatepetl in Mexico began as well. A cloud of dust, ash and gas rise to a height of over 2 km.
Volcanologists recorded 5 short powerful explosions of the volcano. Authorities advised local residents not to approach the volcano closer than 12 km due to the risk of falling fragments. In addition, the population should refrain from being outside for long periods of time and protect their mouth, nose and eyes from volcanic dust.
On December 17th, the eruption of Manam volcano in Papua New Guinea began. After an explosive eruption, the volcano threw ash to a height of 12 km. A red code of aviation hazard has been announced.
On December 18th in Japan, there was an eruption on Mount Shindake. A column of volcanic ash rise into the air to a height of 2 kilometers, at the same time large stones flew out of the crater.
For the first time since 2015, the pyroclastic flow reaches about one kilometer down the western slope. Since October of this year, eruptions are occasionally observed on Mount Shindake. Level 3 on the scale from 1 to 5 of the eruption alert is maintained.

OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
AllatRa TV reporters will explain in more detail about the earthquakes that took place in the world since the beginning of December and their consequences.
EVGENIA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, UKRAINE:
Hello! This is AllatRa TV reporter from Ukraine.
On December 11th, 2018 a severe 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, 48 kilometers from the uninhabited Bristol Island, which is a part of the South Sandwich Islands. No tsunami warning alerts were reported.
This is the second earthquake in December of over 7.0 magnitude and the sixth earthquake since the beginning of December of over 6.0 magnitude. On December 12th an earthquake struck the eastern part of Tennessee in the USA in the area of the New-Madrid Fault Line. My US colleague will tell more about it.
INNA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from Atlanta, Georgia.
On December 12th, the state of Tennessee experienced an unusual 4.4 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 9 km. It happened about 11 km northeast of the city of Decatur.
Twelve minutes later, it was followed by an aftershock of 3.3 magnitude.
The earthquake was felt throughout a number of states in the southeast of USA - from the southern part of Alabama to South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, and even here in Georgia.
Since these days our planet sees hundreds of 4.0 or higher magnitude earthquakes a day, this earthquake could’ve passed unnoticed, but for the fact that this is an extremely rare occurrence for this area. And the December 12th earthquake became one of the top three most powerful earthquakes in the entire history of the eastern part of Tennessee. This serves as evidence of geological changes taking place there.
As it says in the report “On the problems and consequences of global climate change on Earth. Effective ways to solve these problems”:
While studying the new field of geoengineering, it became possible to identify a discrepancy between the data that are publicly presented to the international community and the realities of today... The same problem applies to modern tectonic maps. In particular, the North American lithospheric plate is not as whole as it previously seemed.
The latest data indicate that on the continental crust of this plate, an intensive formation of a split takes place, which transitions into a rift along the border that practically divides the territory of the present USA into two halves.
Given the fact that intensity in this area along the fracture formation line increases with each passing day, according to all the calculations, soon…
The proximity of the Yellowstone Caldera (Wyoming, USA), Long Valley Caldera (California, USA) and Valles Caldera (New Mexico, USA) to this line is particularly alarming.
Especially disturbing in the recent years has been the activity of the largest supervolcano on the North American continent - the Yellowstone Caldera.
For more details on changes taking place at the Yellowstone Caldera, please watch the upcoming episodes of Climate Control.

Anomalous weather struck the North of Russia and China. Stay tuned for special reports from Allatra TV reporters from these countries.
Russian Federation. Climate breaking news
SVETLANA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, RUSSIAN FEDERATION:
Hello! This is special reporter for ALLATRA TV from Irkutsk. During the first week of December the massive cold Siberian anticyclone spread out across the greater part of Russia’s territory. Arctic air was the reason for extremely low temperatures.
The residents of Central and Southern Siberia were particularly affected by the approaching winter with some parts of the country facing lows of 16 -18 degrees Celsius.
In Irkutsk Oblast, on the night of December 4th, the temperature dropped as low as minus 47 degrees Celsius. In Tomsk oblast, a temperature drop of minus 42 was recorded, and in many parts of Krasnoyarsk Krai it dropped to minus 45. In addition, on December 3rd a new lowest air temperature record was set in Turukhansk, which is now minus 44 degrees Celsius, while the previous record in 2012 was 43.9 degrees below zero.
In Krasnoyarsk, more than 30 buses broke down and didn’t leave the garage due to severe frosts (as low as 39 below zero). Also, due to the temperature drop that caused a leak of the heat distribution system, 16 high-rises were left without central heating and hot water.
Car owners also faced problems: in such cold weather, they couldn’t start their cars.
In the Kemerovo region and Tomsk, bus service between the cities was halted. Schools canceled classes. Municipal services of all Siberia regions are on high alert, stationary warming centres for drivers are open on highways.
In the town of Myski, Kemerovo Region, school buses were added during the severe frosts period so that children and adults don't have to stand at bus stops for a long time.
Also, several free city transport routes were added by the city administration for the period of abnormally cold weather.
USA. Series of natural disasters
NARINE, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA
Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter.
On December 8th, the powerful Diego winter storm hit the territory of the United States. It was accompanied by heavy snowfalls and freezing rain, causing chaos in the south-east of the country.
The states of North and South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and California were affected by bad weather.
As a result of the disaster more than 400 thousand houses were left without electricity.
Flights were canceled. Hundreds of accidents are reported, there are victims.
In some locations, about 30 cm of snow fell. Many schools and offices are closed.
China. Series of natural disasters
LILIA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, CHINA:
Unusual natural conditions are also continuing in the East and South-West of China, where on November 26th an anomalous fog has set in.
For example, in Nanjing, visibility on the roads was less than 50 meters.
According to the fog density classification, this indicator is higher than the limit value. Fogs are usually caused by the radiation cooling of the earth’s surface and the moist mass of near-ground air to the dew point.
Typically, they form in the evening or at night and dissipate at sunrise. But in industrial areas there may occur an extreme form of radiation fog - smog, which lasts from one to several days.
Local meteorological stations warned about the "orange" danger level and also recommended that drivers minimize traffic on the roads. Also, to pay special attention to speed because all objects in the fog appear to be twice as far away.
At the same time, the north-west of China was affected by several other natural disasters.
Since November 30, powerful storms have swept across the region with strong wind gusts that exceeded 70 km/h (43.5 m/h)
A sandstorm has passed through Karamay which carried sand to the northwest of the country. Due to low temperatures, sand, together with snow and dust, fell on the ground as precipitation.
On December 4th, 2018, there was a heavy snowfall, which completely paralyzed the work of Diwopu International Airport (Ürümqi city). Due to bad weather, more than 4 thousand passengers were stuck at the air harbor.
OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
And on December 16th, a strong earthquake occurred in southwest China in the province of Sichuan. The magnitude of the seismic event was 5.4. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 27 km (0.6 miles). A powerful earthquake led to the collapse of houses. There were people injured.

Major hail and hurricane hit South Africa while Saudi Arabia has been paralyzed by an icy flooding.
South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Climate Breaking News
SUNDAY, ALATRA TV REPORTER, UKRAINE:
Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from Kiev, Ukraine.
On December 4th the Kingdom of Eswatini in South Africa (formerly known as - Swaziland ) witnessed an unprecedented disaster . Areas of Lundzi, Mhlambanyatsi, and Siphocosini suffered from a heavy storm. A lot of trees were uprooted and broken by the gale-force winds.
On the same day in Manzini, the largest city in South Africa, there was a heavy hailstorm. The size of the hailstones was about the size of a chicken egg. Houses and cars were damaged greatly. Most of all farmers were affected and their cattles.
On the same day, in the Northern city of Saudi Arabia, Al-Jawf there was heavy rain and hail.
A lot of schools were closed in the city of Sakakah. Rain and hail formed into an icy flood.
And the Golden Sands of the desert were once again covered with a fairly dense layer of hailstones.
As reported in the 19 and 21 episode of Breaking news, hail and snow are very rare in countries located at the tropical latitudes. Unfortunately, in recent times we've seen this be perpetrated over and over again. This is an anomaly.

OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
After continuous floods, snowfalls and hailstorms, the desert in Saudi Arabia turned green and burst into bloom. It’s curious that in the authentic hadiths by Muslim it says: “The Judgement Day won’t come until the land of the Arabs returns to a state of lush vegetation and abundant rivers.” More on this is the next episode of The Breaking News.
More and more often people facing natural disasters observe that they have never seen anything like it before. ALLATRA TV reporters reached out to Galina, who became a witness of severe flooding in Cyprus.
Cyprus. Climate Breaking News
VERONIKA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, MOLDOVA:
Hi! On the night of December 3th-4th heavy rain caused severe flooding in Cyprus. There was a storm. This affected a lot of citizens. At the moment we are calling the witness from Cyprus, Galina.
Interview with the witness of flooding caused by Gaia cyclone
OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, UKRAINE:
Hi, Galya!
GALINA, WITNESS, CYPRUS:
GALINA: Hello!
OLGA: Please tell us what is going on in the area at the moment? Where do you live?
GALINA: I live in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Currently after the severe storm, of course, we are ok. On December 3rd-4th we had such a heavy rain that the Cyprus residents had never seen such before. It was completely unexpected. Of course, in the news we had been warned about the storm and that we shouldn’t leave home by cars and shouldn’t leave at all. My house was flooded too. Not much in comparison with other houses. We had a heavy hailstorm. It wasn’t large, but very intense. It was falling sideways and hitting the doors. Because the water was failing to drain fast enough, it rose so high that it leaked through the door slit all the way to the middle of the living room. In the new houses, all terraces were flooded. On the Northern Turkish side of Cyprus, that’s where they had victims. The schools on the Turkish side were closed for two days.
OLGA: Galina, please tell what other climate changes have you been observing in your area? Perhaps in the recent years?
GALINA: Recently, we’ve been facing severe dust storms coming from Egypt, the Sahara Desert. A year ago, a very powerful dust storm of Red danger level hit us...There was a tornado, which latest occurrence had been in year 2009.
OLGA: What do you think people can do about this? Can people prepare for this or what can people do?
GALINA: A lot of things depend on people themselves. We should be more attentive and pay attention to what is happening around. We should all share information.
OLGA: Did you observe any examples of mutual help among neighbors, people?
GALINA: Sure, of course! When the parking floors were flooded, water rose to 10 meters. Services came, and people residing in the houses and their neighbors were coming out and pumping out the water. Not only in Cyprus, people everywhere now help in some way. People have an understanding that they should help. This happens by itself and nobody has to ask for it. Somehow people join efforts and everybody knows what they need to do. At least, that’s what I saw myself. When the fires happened in Greece, people were collecting clothes and personal hygiene items everywhere. All this was sent to Greece.
OLGA: How important, do you think, it is for a person to be able to control their inner state?
GALINA: I think we must control our inner state. We must develop this peace of mind. We must be ready to host and give help to others.
Antarctica. Climate Breaking News
OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, USA:
Modern humanity with its advanced technology should know everything about the planet where we live. But more and more often we hear about new discoveries that can drastically change the established hypotheses of modern science about the picture of the world. ALLATRA TV reporters tell more about the latest scientists’ discoveries.
ANDREY, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, RUSSIAN FEDERATION:
Hello! This is an AllatRa TV reporter!
The ice cover of Antarctica hides a large system of volcanoes, comparable to those located in eastern Africa and North America.
Over the years of studying Antarctica, scientists discovered 47 volcanoes, and later another 91 volcanoes.
Long-term observation, data analysis on melting ice and a detailed study of the heat map allowed scientists from the University of East Anglia to make a statement - there is probably an active volcano under the ice of Antarctica.
Scientists came to this conclusion after analyzing the chemical composition of water, samples of which were taken near the largest glaciers.
Scientists discovered a rare isotope of helium-3, whose entry into the atmosphere through the mantle is estimated at a few kilograms per year. The new data was compared with previous reports, according to which the rapid melting of glaciers was caused by the geographical particularities of the western Antarctic cover lying on top of a large system of volcanic faults.
Professor Karen Haywood from the University of East Anglia at Norwich noted that the volcano could be the main cause of melting ice and the destruction of the largest glaciers ever studied.
Russian Federation. Climate Breaking News
OLGA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, RUSSIAN FEDERATION:
Since 2014, an unusual geological phenomenon has begun to be recorded in Western Siberia - deep sinkholes. They have the form of craters of round shape with a diameter of several dozen meters and level hanging walls. The first such sinkhole was discovered in the summer of 2014 on the Yamal Peninsula, 30 kilometers from the Bovanenkovo gas field. This news caused a wide resonance in the press and among the local population.
According to satellite images, the Yamal funnel was formed no earlier than the fall of 2013. Before it appeared, there was a mound in this location. The size of the crater when it was detected was 20 meters in diameter and about 50 meters in depth. For several years, numerous studies have been carried out in this region on the causes of this phenomenon and the conditions of its creation.
Thus, in September 2018, an article by the staff of the Geological Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University was published in the Scientific Reports magazine, in which a reconstruction of events during the formation of the crater was given. And on the basis of this reconstruction, it was concluded that the formation of the Yamal crater is the first recorded occurence of cryovolcanism.
Let us recall that cryovolcano is a low-temperature volcano, that erupts cryolava (water, ammonia, methane or other substances) in a liquid or gaseous state. For the first time, cryovolcanoes were detected by the Voyager-2 spacecraft on Neptune’s satellite, Triton. Active cryovolcanoes are also known on Jupiter’s satellite Europa and on Saturn’s satellite Enceladus.
The appearance of craters in Siberia indicates activation of certain geological processes in the cryolithozone (for example, thawing of frozen rocks). The cryolithozone is the upper layer of the earth's crust with a negative temperature of soils and rocks and possible existence of underground ice. It occupies about 20% of the planet’s land area (this is northern Canada, Alaska, Antarctica, the highland regions of South America and Africa) and 65% of the territory of Russia.
The scientists’ article “YAMAL CRATER - NATURAL PHENOMENON” on the website of the Earth Cryosphere Institute of the Tyumen Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences states that one of the main reasons for the cryogenic processes activation, in addition to an increase in the temperature of rocks, is extreme temperature increase.

Khalid Zayed: And today we all agree: Yes, there is a climate change, there is catastrophic even changes that's happening to this world
Giuseppe Mastrolorenzo: To protect people against the volcanos we must use all instruments we have, monitoring systems. So we cannot make prevision about the eruption, but we must be ready in order not to risk that people will be surprised by an eruption.
David: New platform to think about things like this because you know, I'm a teacher for geography in school and I don't have any solutions talking about this climate change, and It's interesting to think about this, what kind of solutions could these be.
Hayden Smith: You don’t have to have a degree to be a scientist. Get out, go out, observe, report and document that. That’s the only thing that makes a scientist. It’s not a piece of paper, it’s not how much school you have, it’s about the simple willingness and drive to document and observe our beautiful blue planet that we’re gifted to have in today’s age.
Carmen Boulter: Thank you for that and I like this forum and what’s going on with AllatRa is excellent because it’s bringing people together from across the world. The timely change in the vector of thinking of society towards the domination of spiritual, moral, constructive priorities prevents many problems that threaten modern humanity.
After all, it is precisely for the sake of the spiritual and moral life that the human race exists. This is the foundation of its further existence and development.
