Japan NOW! Kyushu Earthquake Triggers Tsunami and Megaquake Warnings On Thursday, August 8th, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck off the southern coast of Japan. The epicenter was located in waters off the eastern coast of Kyushu at a depth of about 18 miles.
