During the international conference “Freedom Has a Name and It’s Called Ukraine” led by Pastor Mark Burns and held in Washington, D.C., the ALLATRA team had the honor of speaking with Dick Heller, an American civil rights advocate and public figure, Founder and Executive Director of the Heller Foundation, and the lead plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case “District of Columbia vs. Heller.”
In this conversation, Dick Heller speaks about freedom as a basic value that forms the foundation of democratic societies. He emphasizes that Ukraine’s struggle for sovereignty is a struggle for people’s right to live without fear, to protect their homes, their families, and their future.
At the same time, during the conversation, Dick Heller outlines his personal stance as a consistent defender of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees citizens the right to keep firearms as an element of protecting fundamental human rights and freedoms.
Heller underscores that behind headlines and statistics stand real human lives — lost homes, ruined communities, and lives that cannot be recovered. In his view, this reality must remain at the center of international attention.
Addressing the role of the international community, Dick Heller highlights the importance of unity and the moral responsibility of democratic countries to support a nation defending its independence. He expresses conviction that freedom cannot be a subject of compromise, and that a country exposed to aggression has the right to full restoration of its sovereignty.
