At the Interfaith Conference "United in Liberty: The Rise of Spiritual Diplomats", inside the U.S. Capitol Complex, Matt Schlapp shares a powerful perspective on spiritual diplomacy — how faith transcends borders and empowers ordinary people to become agents of meaningful change in a fractured world.
Matt Schlapp is Chairman of the American Conservative Union, elected unanimously by the ACU board in 2014 as its ninth chairman. He previously served as President George W. Bush's political director during the 2004 re-election campaign and as chief of staff to Congressman Todd Tiahrt following the 1994 Republican wave. Schlapp is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Wichita State University, and co-founder of Cove Strategies, a legislative and communications consulting firm.
In this conversation, you'll learn:
• Why spiritual connection often proves more impactful than official diplomacy when bridging cultural divides
• Why fear — not powerlessness — is the true barrier preventing ordinary people from shaping history
• The vital role faith leaders can play in de-escalating conflicts where religion has been weaponized
This interview reminds us that change comes from individuals who refuse to be indifferent. As Schlapp powerfully states: "It's always the meek and the small, the few who change history. It happens all the time."
