A rare M4.9 earthquake in California, a deadly gust in Indonesia claiming workers’ lives, an EF3 tornado in Michigan, and record winds comparable to a typhoon in Malaysia — the climate disasters of March 2026 affected all continents simultaneously.
In Michigan, an EF3 tornado became the earliest ever recorded in the state’s history, claiming the lives of three people near Union Lake. In Indonesia, a gust tore a basket used for high-rise work on the 26th floor — a worker got tangled in the cables and died from hitting the building’s wall. In Malaysia, the wind was so strong that witnesses compared it to a typhoon.
In South Korea, a passenger plane failed to land three times due to gusty winds reaching 29.5 m/s, causing panic on board. In Paraguay, a brief storm destroyed a sports club within minutes and triggered sudden flooding.
All these events share one alarming pattern: micro- and nanoplastics, accumulating electrostatic charge, have become active participants in climate processes. Plastic particles disrupt heat exchange between the ocean and the atmosphere, turning the planet into a giant energy capacitor. This energy transforms into the destructive force of storms, tornadoes, and abnormal precipitation.
But the most dangerous part is that nanoplastics penetrate the blood–brain barrier and damage areas of the brain responsible for critical thinking. People lose the ability to adequately assess threats precisely when it is most vital.
The time for inaction is over. Every day of delay brings new victims. But as long as we are still able to think, understand, and act, humanity still has a chance to change the future.
